Description: An integral part of the Karuna Vihar programme, the Principal is the leader of our school dedicated to educating children with specific needs. The position’s varied responsibilities link always to the ideal of shaping an inclusive society one child at a time. Karuna Vihar builds upon the Montessori play-rich methodology that encourages children to develop through the process of guided investigation, play, and self-discovery. To help our children discover their full potential, we are looking for an engaging, optimistic, and patient individual who can head our programmes and maintain our ideals.Responsibilities:
- Assess child readiness for academic admission and placement.
- Arrange for new children to join their classes.
- Discuss each child’s needs with other KV staff and evolve an appropriate programme.
- Advise family of school-home relationship.
- Oversee all school programmes.
- Ensure that activities are relevant and appropriate for all children in each group.
- Manage activities and new programmes as they develop.
- Delegate responsibility as needed.
- Assess programmes and make decisions according to developments that arise.
- Manage teachers and staff.
- Monitor daily work of each staff person
- Guide teachers in design and implementation of IEPs
- Communicate with teachers and staff about concerns and projects
- Chair regular staff meetings
- Participate in inter-disciplinary meetings as required
- Organize training programmes periodically.
- Problem-solve or mediate if conflicts arise.
- Regular evaluations of junior staff
- Writing, documentation, proposals
- Monitoring and documentation of children’s progress
- Annual report
- Proposals for funding
- Reports to funding agencies
- Counsel and support families of children attending KV, including advice regarding educational methodology, entitlements (e.g., concessions) and access to information regarding specific disabilities or therapies.
- Foster parent-parent support on both an individual and group basis.
- Provide/facilitate in-service training for KV staff on regular basis.
- Liaise with other professionals locally and nationally regarding both KV activities and specific children; network particularly with mainstream schools in order to foster inclusive education.
- Keep up to date with advances and changes in educational practices, particularly those related directly to children with special needs, by personal research and reading, attendance at seminars, conferences etc
- Ensure efficient administrative practices are followed, including monitoring of budgeting, purchasing, etc.
- Meet with other coordinators in the Latika Roy Foundation for discussions and planning.
